Storytelling with Data
Stories and storytelling are important parts of our lives. Great stories connect with the audience - stirring up emotions and initiating a response: from tears to laughter... or sometimes both. Storytelling is also a great way of getting other people to join you and to become advocates for your mission.  However, it's critical that we take the time to craft our stories in a way that captures the attention of our audience.  It's also important to understand the role data plays in changing the tone of a story, and how it can impact the way in which the audience responds.  In this session, Lizzie Teuber and Dr. Kristal Ayers from BrighBytes will take attendees through a series of activities around how to craft a data-informed story using the same model used by the team at Pixar for creating stories such as Toy Story and Up.

The Importance of A Strong Cloud Management System When Choosing and Implementing IFPs
Regardless if one is just adding one interactive flat panel (IFP) to a classroom or adding many during a district wide implementation it remains important to note that you are adding an additional mobile computing device to the classroom and opening up the classroom and district to security vulnerabilities and management challenges. Because of this, it is prudent to evaluate your IFP selection alongside your mobile device plan’s identified mobile device management challenges and security vulnerabilities. These challenges and vulnerabilities need to not only be identified, but additionally discussed and mitigated. It is important to evaluate the purchase of interactive flat panels based on the value of it’s cloud device management and individual account management tools.

During this presentation, we will present the BenQ cloud management system. By doing this we hope to invoke a lively discussion focused on the management and security challenges around implementing IFPS.

From Consumers to Sharers
Learning is not limited. Learning comes in so many different shapes and forms. This session focuses on learning as a cycle, where we discuss how students may come to our classes as consumers of knowledge but we don’t want them to stop there. Through the use of technology, we consider how we can move students from merely being content consumers, or receivers of knowledge, to content sharers, incorporating the ideas of content seeking and content creating. How can technology effectively be used to facilitate student seeking, creating and sharing?

Improving the Effectiveness of Digital Learning: Research, Challenges, Solutions
Many principals and district leadership found that the number one challenge they face to deeper engagement of ed tech in their district isn’t student or teacher tech fatigue. It’s not lost or damaged devices. It’s not insufficient home internet access. The number one challenge to deeper ed tech engagement in their district? Is digital distractions. Innovative instructional efforts to help guide students toward digital self-regulation skills, digital citizenship and implementation of a Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR) framework and others when combined with innovative technological advancements, provide viable solutions school leaders should be aware of to help ensure student-use of school-issued devices remains productive and academically focused. This session will provide an overview of the body of research in examining the causes and impacts that digital distractions and media multitasking often have on student achievement.

Using Data to Help you Find and Tell Your Success Story
The BrightBytes Technology & Learning Solution (T&L) allows for a district to view qualitative insights from three key stakeholder groups - teachers, students, and parents - as they respond to research-based questions designed to assess the maturity of your instructional technology ecosystem. From how technology is used for instruction, to whether students have the access they need to complete their work, T&L can serve as a cornerstone of how you plan, execute and monitor your instructional technology initiatives. In addition, this data serves as a foundation for crafting and communicating a compelling story to your learning community and key stakeholders.

In this session - we have partnered with Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City to share insights into the ways that the district has utilized the T&L Survey solution as a part of a comprehensive process to assess the unique learning conditions and experiences of each student.
